Interior∙Furniture Design Lab

A workshop hosted by the Seoul Design Foundation and organized by the Korea Design History Institute has been held since September to recreate the new Bauhaus masterpiece, which reflects the technical conditions, aesthetics, and social perception of the 21st century, and the results have been exhibited at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) Archives. The memories of those who visited Bauhaus in person and the Bauhaus archive recorded in the domestic media since 1939 show a way of reading today's creative Bauhaus.

서울디자인재단이 주최하고 한국디자인사연구소가 기획한 워크숍으로 9월부터 국내10개 대학, 10명의 대학(원)생 100명이 제안하는 뉴 바우하우스 오브제 즉, 21세기의 기술적 조건, 미학, 사회적 인식을 반영하여 바우하우스 마스터피스를 재현하기 위한 워크숍을 하고,그 결과물을 전시(동대문디자인플라자(DDP) 기록관에서 바우하우스100주년 기념 디자인 워크숍에 참가 후 결과물 전시하여, 바우하우스를 직접 방문한 이들의 기억과 1939년부터 국내 언론에 기록된 바우하우스 아카이브는 오늘날 창조적인 ‘바우하우스’ 독해의 한 방식을 보여준다.

2017 Milan Fiera, Salone Satellite Exhibition Invitation 'Kookmin University': 2017 Milan Design Week, Milan Fiera, and Salone Satellite were invited to exhibit. Based on the cultural sensibility of wood, the frame design and video exhibition expressed through craftmanship, and the candlesticks and tables designed in collaboration with charcoal companies, which are Korean materials, were designed to rediscover the beautiful patterns of charcoal and fill artificial marble with cracks in charcoal.

2017 Milan Fiera, Salone Satellite 전시초청 ’Kookmin University’ : 2017년 밀라노 디자인 위크, Milan Fiera, Salone Satellite에서 초청 전시를 진행하였다. 본 전시는 목재라는 소재가 가지는 문화적 감성을 토대로 크래프 트맨쉽을 통해 표현한 프레임 디자인과 영상전시, 한국적 소재인 숯을 소재로 숯 전문 기업과의 협업을 통해 디자인한 촛대와 테이블은 숯의 아름다운 문양을 재발견하고, 숯 고유의 특성을 활용해 숯의 갈라진 틈새로 인조대리석을 충전하는 방식으로 만들어져 한국의 전통문화에 대한 새로운 미적 경험을 제공했다는 평가를 받았다.

The results based on various classes and industry-academic research on 'emotional residential culture' were exhibited at the largest living exhibition in Korea in the sense of communicating with the general public. Through collaboration with participating professors and participating graduate students and Yang Seok-joong's cattle ranch, 12 works designed from a convergent perspective of culture, emotion, and technology were presented. In order to maintain the form of craftsmanship in modern housing and living culture by combining the cultural sensibility of wood with the frame used to capture various aesthetic elements, students' active and enterprising attitudes are expected to inspire creativity and lead to competitions or external exhibitions.

‘감성적 주거문화’에 대한 다양한 수업과 산학 연구를 토대로 나온 결과물을 일반 대중들과 함께 소통하는 의미에서 국내 최대 규모의 리빙 전시회에 참가하여 전시하였다. 참여교수 및 참여대학원생들과 양석중 소목장과의 협업을 통해 문화, 감성, 기술의 융합적 관점으로 디자인한 12점의 작품을 선보였다. 목재라는 소재가 가지는 문화적 감성을 품은 감성적 특성과 다양한 미적 요소를 담아내는 데에 활용되는 프레임을 결합하여 현대 주거, 생활문화에 맞는 실용적 디자인 제작에 있어 공예의 형식을 유지하고자 하여, 학생들의 능동적이고 진취적인 태도는 창작의욕을 고취시키고, 공모전이나 대외 전시회 참가로 이어지는 밑바탕이 되어 보다 발전 된 양상을 보일 것으로 기대된다.

Korean Traditional Patchwork

Purpose ⸻:

It was a task to create a new design suitable for modern life based on the combination of various materials and colors that appear in Korean traditional patchwork. The sculptural characteristics of traditional patchwork that transcend the limitations of materials and colors will be combined with various everyday elements such as daily needs, lifestyle, and use, suggesting the possibility of designing a life with various roles and uses in the human living environment.

Under the theme of Korean sculpture, the results of the workshop conducted by Italian design master Alessandro Mendini and Korean designers and researchers were exhibited. Under the theme of Square, the research team designed objects within a maximum of 45cm by 45cm, and Mendini's direct cricket was conducted. It is a new design that combines various materials, colors, shapes and functions, and designers' senses and ideas, and is also a result of the discovery and fusion of Eastern and Western values. The identity was established through the discovery of the unique values of Korean tradition, and a new direction for future formative values and convergent design tailored to the demands of this era was shown.

한국의 조각보를 주제로 이탈리아 디자인계의 거장 알레산드로 멘디니와 한국의 디자이너들과 연구생들이 함께 진행한 워크샵 결과물을 전시하였다. 연구팀은 ‘Square’ 를 주제로 가로, 세로 최대 45cm x 45cm 이내의 오브제를 디자인하고 멘디니의 직접적인 크리틱이 진행되었다. 다양한 소재와 색채, 형태와 기능, 디자이너의 감각과 아이디어가 한 데 어우러진 새로운 디자인이며, 또한 동양과 서양적 가치의 발견과 융합을 통한 결과물이라 할 수 있다. 한국 전통 고유의 가치 발견을 통해 정체성을 수립하고, 이 시대의 수요에 맞는 미래 조형 가치와 융합적 디자인의 새로운 방향성을 보여주었다.

VITALITY 2015 Beyond Craft and Design

Purpose ⸻:

This is to establish an identity through the discovery of the unique value of Korean tradition and to showcase a new horizon of the future formative value of design that meets the needs of this era. Representative works include "Proust Chair" created by design master Alexandro Mandini and sculpture reporter Kang Geum-sung, and "Soban" collaborated with world-class architect Daniel Rivenskind and Korean woodworking artist Park Tae-hong.

Based on the spirit of traditional spirit and craft, it proposes a design of life with various roles and uses in a human residential environment as a formative object of everyday life. It presents a differentiated design that utilizes the properties of materials from natural materials such as ceramics, paper, and wood. Typical works include "Proust Chair," created by design master Alexandro Mandini and sculpture master Kang Geum-sung, and "Sovan," a collaboration between global architect Daniel Revenskind and Korean woodworking artist Park Tae-hong. A new aesthetic experience was provided to the public through collaboration between world-class designers and Korean artisans.

전통의 혼과 공예의 정신을 바탕으로 일상의 조형적 오브제로서 인간의 주거환경 속에서 역할과 쓰임이 다양한 생활의 디자인을 제안한다. 세라믹, 종이, 나무와 같은 자연적인 소재로부터 재료의 특성을 살린 차별화된 디자인을 선보인다. 디자인 거장 알렉산드로 맨디니와 조각보 장인 강금성 씨가 함께 만든 ‘프루스트 의자’, 세계적 건축가 대니얼 리벤스킨트와 한국의 목공장인 박태홍씨가 협업한 ‘소반’ 등이 대표적 작품이다. 세계적 디자이너와 한국 장인들의 협업을 통해 새로운 미적 경험을 대중들에게 제공하였다.

한국 문화적 감수성과 격조 있는 디자인을 드러나게 강조한 이번 전시는 국내외 유명디자이너들의 콜라보레이션으로 이루어졌다. 한국의 대표 건축디자이너인 승효상이 한국의 소쇄원을 모티브로 한 공간을 구상하였고 현대 도예 디자이너 이기진의 현대 도자 디자인과 한국과 이탈리아의 대표적인 디자이너의 50명의 협업으로 50개의 작품을 선보여, 한국과 이탈리아의 대표적인 디자이너의 협업에 의해 동서가치의 융합적인 미를 선보였다.

The 2015 Home Table Teco Fair is an exhibition that shows and proposes trends in home styling, including furniture, props, and interiors, to the general public interested in commercial space designers and residential space interiors. It was organized by Kookmin University's Institute of Oriental Culture and Design and Korea Pottery, and many researchers participated along with Alessandromendini and Stefano Giovanni. Opportunities for cooperation, convergence, and creativity were provided by raising awareness of research participation through actual development cases and appropriately responding to public demand.

2015 홈테이블테코페어는 상업공간 디자이너와 주거공간 인테리어에 관심있는 일반인들에게 가구나 소품, 인테리어를 포함한 홈스타일링의 트렌드를 보여주고 제안하는 전시회다. 국민대학교 동양문화디자인 연구소와 한국도자기가 기획하여 알레산드로멘디니, 스테파노 지오반노니와 함께 많은 연구원들이 참가하였다. 실제 개발 사례를 통한 연구 참여의식 고취 및 대중의 수요에 적절하게 대응하여 협력, 융합, 창의에 대한 기회를 제공하였다.

Based on the research results, 'Active Kitchen' was developed targeting small Chinese residential spaces in consideration of storage spaces and cooking movements suitable for Chinese food culture.Active Kitchen was produced in collaboration with Chinese kitchen furniture company HaiLi and exhibited at the Shanghai Kitchen & Bath Show. The industry-academic project LIXIL 'active kitchen' is a practical designer talent development prepared based on an enterprising educational philosophy and system.

연구결과를 바탕으로 중국 식문화에 적합한 수납공간과 조리 동선을 고려하여 중국 소형주거공간을 타겟으로 하는 ‘Active Kitchen'을 개발하였다.Active kitchen은 중국의 주방가구 기업 HaiLi와의 협력을 통해 제작되었으며, 상하이 Kitchen & Bath 쇼에서 전시되었다. 산학프로젝트LIXIL ‘active kitchen’은 진취적인 교육 철학과 시스템을 바탕으로 준비된 실천형 Designer 인재 육성이다.

The exhibition was presented with four themes. First, the revival of crafts focusing on traditional technologies with the meaning and story of objects in the uniform appearance of modern society, Dream Space using 2014 trend colors, daily conflicts that show the unique harmony created by the combination of two opposing elements, and finally, purity felt through materials and colors that may look rough. By directly showing examples of the use of interior props, which are the most difficult for the general public, they showed how to change the space with small objects and complete the space.

전시는 4가지의 테마로 전시되었다. 먼저, 현대 사회의 획일화된 모습 속에서 사물의 의미와 이야기가 담긴 전통 기술에 초점을 맞춘 공예의 부활, 2014 트렌드 컬러를 활용한 Dream Space, 서로 상반되는 두 요소의 결합이 만들어낸 독특한 조화를 보여주는 일상의 충돌, 마지막으로 정제되지 않고 거칠어 보일 수 있는 소재와 컬러를 통해 느껴지는 순수함에 주목한 순수성의 예찬이다. 일반인들이 가장 어려워하는 인테리어 소품 활용에 대한 예시를 직접 보여줌으로써 작은 오브제로 공간에 변화를 주고 공간을 완성시키는 방법을 선보였다.

It will be exhibited jointly by Italy's Triennial Design Museum and the Korea Institute of Oriental Culture and Design (OCDC) of Kookmin University and the Korea Craft Design and Culture Promotion Agency. It is a design language that allows young designers to reinterpret Korea's traditional life culture in a modern design suitable for the information age and communicate with the world, showing a lively exhibition like the title of the exhibition "Vitality Live." It showed the possibility that Korean design could be the mainstay of the world's design trend to a level that transcends the East and the West, and served as an opportunity for young leaders to become world-class designers.

이태리의 트리엔날레 디자인 뮤지엄과 한국의 국민대 동양문화디자인연구소(OCDC)와 한국공예디자인문화진흥원의 공동 주최로 전시된다. 젊은 디자이너들이 한국의 전통생활문화를 정보화 시대에 맞는 현대적인 디자인으로 재해석하여 한국문화의 디자인적 정체성과 세계와 소통할 수 있는 디자인 언어로써, "Vitality 생동하다" 라는 전시의 타이틀처럼 생동감 있는 전시를 보여주고 있다. 한국 디자인이 동서양을 뛰어넘는 수준으로 세계 디자인의 흐름의 주역이 될 수 있는 가능성을 보여주고, 젊은 주역들이 세계적인 디자이너로 발돋움하는 계기가 되었다.

About 10 students from Kookmin University's Department of Interior Design exhibited their works under the theme of water and faucet at Salone Statelite held in Milan. Choi Kyung-ran, a professor at Kookmin University who guided them, said, "This work, which was submitted under the name of the OCD (Oriental Culture Design) Center, expressed the theme of oriental metapoints." Introduced as the core of the Milan Salone Satellite exhibition promotion, it delivered a message of oriental design, and design executives of related construction companies and furniture companies (Samsung, LG, Persis, etc.) visited the ODCD exhibition hall and received good reviews.

밀라노에서 개최된 Salone Statelite에 국민대 실내디자인학과 학생 10여명이 물과 수전을 주제로 제작한 작품을 전시했다. 이들을 지도한 국민대 최경란 교수는 "ODCD(동양문화 디자인)센터 이름으로 출품한 이번 작품은 동양적인 메타포인 물을 주제로 표현했다"고 소개했다. 밀라노 Salone Satellite 전시 홍보의 핵심으로 소개되어 동양디자인의 메시지를 전달하였고 국내 외 관련 건설사와 가구회사(삼성, LG, 퍼시스 등 )의 디자인경영진들이 ODCD 전시장을 방문하여 좋은 평가를 받았다.

The OCD (Oriental Domestic Culture & Design) participated in the alliance with the National University of China's Tsinghua University and Musashino Art University in Milan. 밀라노 조나 토르나에 국민대, 중국 칭화대, 일본 무사시노 미술대학과 연합, ‘ODCD(동양문화디자인연구소·Oriental Domestic Culture & Design)’가 참가했다. 해당 전시는 이탈리아 디자인계의 원로 알레산드로 멘디니가 ODCD 고문을 맡고 있으며, 이번 밀라노 전시는 일본의 욕실업체 ‘이낙스(INAX)’가 후원했다. 서양 디자인의 중심 무대인 밀라노에서 3개국의 동양 디자인을 선보였다. 절제된 동양의 미를 통해 전통문화와 현대 문화의 시간과 공간의 통합을 이루었다.

한국, 중국, 일본이 1년간 교류해 최종 결과를 발표 전시했다. 한·중·일 디자인 교육을 기반으로 한 교류 및 각종 연구 한국의 국민대학교(실내디자인학과)를 메인 센터로 중국의 칭화대학(환경실내설계학과), 일본의 무사시노미술대학(실내디자인 전공)이 주축이 되어 조직하여 구성하였다. 중국의 SOHO라 불리는 대표 예술촌에 전시하여 대중적으로 OCDC 활동을 선전했다. 한·중·일의 동양 문화, 특히 주거 문화에 대한 공동의 문화적 이해를 토대로 연구, 교육을 교류하고, 이를 전시하여 본 전시에서 채택된 우수 작품 중심으로 밀라노에 전시하였다.
